Reclaim the Classics with Hyperkin’s Smart Boy
A little before April Fool’s Day, Hyperkin released some photos of a device they had made some concept art for. The Smart Boy takes you’re smart phone and allows it to play gameboy games and gives users a button layout similar to the retro personal gaming console. Come to find out, this was not a game that Hyperkin was playing. Based of the fan reception, they have announced that the Smart boy is now going in to production.
A lot of you were speculating that the Smart Boy is an April Fools’ Joke. Well, it sort of was. We “leaked” it with the initial intent of testing the market, seeing whether or not it should be something we’d actually make, under the guise of an April Fools’ Joke.
Looks like you awesome folks ACTUALLY WANT IT, so the Smart Boy is now in development! Thank you all for your enthusiastic responses!
So, now, iphone and Android users will be able to dust off those old gamboy games on their devices. Right now the only Smart Boy mock-up is iPhone centered, but they are also working on an Android version of the Smart Boy.
It will also feature an eight-way D-pad; two action buttons; a start and select button; and an included battery that can be charged through the phone itself providing 5 hours of gameplay. The gameplay itself will output through the iPhone 6 Plus’ own screen.
The end all do all will be the price. Since, you can get Gameboy’s a lot cheaper now. What works in its favor is that device has its own battery which could serve as a perk for most devices.
