Sexy Aunt May? Talk About Conflicting…
No need to grab your seats, this is just a quick news drop.
We all know by now that Spider-man has been recast and is going to appear in Captain America: Civil War. We also know that a new, solo Spider-man movie is getting ramped up. What we don’t know is much of the cast. We know who will wear the webs, as this was given to young Tom Holland very recently, but no one else had yet been announced until now. And wow, what a casting right out of the gate.
We learned today that award winning actress Marisa Tomei will be the next Aunt May Parker. This will be the youngest woman to date to play Aunt May on the big screen, sticking with what seems to be Marvel’s goal: to go younger. And it makes sense. The solo movie isn’t scheduled til 2017, and you can all but guarantee there will be at least one sequel, probably two, spread out over a 6-8 year period. Going with a younger cast ensures that aging actors are not an issue for the follow-up films. Let’s also be honest: Tomei is an amazing actress. Chances are she will crush this role without even breaking a sweat. No word yet on whether or not we will see her in Civil War as well, or if we have to wait til the solo film to see her. Either way, I’m very much looking forward to seeing her performance. I’m also now looking even more forward to see who else will be cast. If they don’t cast Molly Quinn as Mary Jane, and then bring back JK Simmons for JJJ, though, I will be disappointed. I’m sure I’ll get over it though.
The Spider-man solo movie, rumored to be called The Spectacular Spider-man, will be released on July 28th, 2017.
Until next time…
