Review: Hangover 2
Hey all:
Excuse the lateness It’s been a crazy week. Went to Virginia this past weekend and got the chance to see the Hangover 2 while I was there. Sat down and was expecting this to be a treat. The sequel has to out-do the original right? Not necessarily… However this movie did take it to the next level, perhaps in the wrong way.
In this follow up, the guys find themselves in a very similar situation to the events of Vegas… perhaps at the beginning, a little too similar. There were some subtle differences though. In this movie, Stu (played by Ed Helms) is the one getting married, but he’s not the one missing… and neither is Doug (played by Justin Bartha) for that matter; That role is given to Stu’s Brother-in-law-to-be, Teddy (played by Mason Lee). What I missed about the movie is that Mr. Chow (played by Ken Jeung), who stole the show in his role in Part I, was only lightly used; His scenes, however, were the most hilarious in my opinion, and it was a shame that didn’t use him more throughout the movie.
The movie itself, although a comedy, was a lot more serious than the first. If I can borrow a line from a friend “it was border-line depressing in it’s storytelling” which was a little disturbing, but it still had enough light moments (including Mike Tyson’s cameo) to be a fun experience with the guys. However, I’d still say that this movie is worth waiting for the DVD if you haven’t been introduced to the story already. Still, die hard fans should thoroughly enjoy a night out at the movies with this one. So from me, it get’s 3.5 out of 5 stars… And I still think I’m being a bit generous with this one…
