Let’s Make a Movie
Evenin’ kiddies. Take a seat, class is in session.
So while discussing the sadness that is the news about Gears of War 3 being delayed til “Holiday Season” 2011, the Samurai and I started talking about the rumored Gears of War movie and whom we thought should play whom. These are my opinions. Keep in mind, I don’t care as much about having the right look as I do about being able to “play” the character properly.
Marcus Fenix: Clive Owen
Marcus is not an easy one to cast. The voice really makes it hard to pick someone. I had some others in mind, like Ron Perlman (the Samurai’s idea and a good one), Mickey Rourke, and Bruce Willis. Why Clive Owen above those guys? Owen is really underrated by most people as an actor and leading man. The guy has chops and can do action. Haven’t seen Shoot Em Up? You should. It’s corny, yeah, but I think if you watch it, you might see where I’m coming from with this choice. He can do the right attitude and persona that is needed to be Marcus.
Dominic “Dom” Santiago: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
This one was a little tough but I think this is a good pick. Again, he doesn’t have the exact look, but we know he can do action and would (forgive the pun) rock this part.
Augustus Cole: Lester Speight
Do I really need to explain or defend this one? I didn’t think so. PAIN TRAINS COMIN’ BABY!! WOO WOO!! WOO WOO!! TRIPLE T IS A HITTER, NOT A QUITTER! BELIEVE THAT!!
Tai Kaliso: Djimon Hounsou
This was a tough character to pick because there aren’t a whole lot of people who fit. It took me a while to come up with this one and I picked him for one reason: Constantine. I think his character of Poppa Midnight has some of the similar “creepy” qualities that Tai needs. I won’t argue real hard on other possibilities for this one though.
Damon Baird: Ryan Reynolds
Yeah, yeah, I know. The guy has been in everything lately and people are probably getting tired of him, but he fits this role. Baird is the resident smartass who doesn’t really know when to shut up. Reynolds has shown he has action chops and really fits this one well. The only other person I thought about for Baird was Chris Pine, who would also be great in this spot. I like Reynolds a little more because of his size. Pine is a bit on the small side.
Colonel Hoffman: Tie. Either R. Lee Ermey or Clancy Brown
This one is really a coin toss. I don’t entirely remember the Hoffman character from the game, as it has been a while since I played it, but let’s be honest. You couldn’t go wrong with either of those guys playing the part.
I know there are other characters, but none that really need main roles. Maybe the Carmine’s do, but I’m not overly worried about who plays them. They won’t be around real long anyway.
So those are my ideas, take them for what they are worth. I’d be curious to see what everyone else thinks.
Class dismissed.
