Gotham to Add Two New Villains to the Mix
Happy Monday Folks! Hope you enjoyed your Ressurection Day/Easter/Passover! Fresh off of the weekend I have some news for you of the Gotham variety. At the closing of WonderCon in Aneheim, CA John Stephens took to answer a question of what we are to expect for possible season 2 introductions in the Gotham universe…

Looks like we’ll be getting a chance to see the Mad Hatter & Clayface make their debut in the world of Gotham. Now, keep in mind, Gotham is not a Batman show it’s a Gotham P.D. show that has this interesting world of characters as it’s backdrop. No doubt we’ll be seeing these characters introduced and witness a longer and more thoughtfully drawn out origin story. We will most likely be catching these villains before they are twisted by the city of Gotham and the powers that be.
The question will be how will they showcase these criminals. Jervis Tetch (a.k.a. The Mad Hatter) is a batman villain that has warped into even darker incarnations in his time in the comics. It’s interesting to not that his first criminal act was not a case that was solved until years later. A school bombing, in which, at the behest of a friend, was requested of Tetch in order to punish “bad kids” that were thought to have taken advantage of a friend of his. His back story starts as a tale of revenge, but develops his obsession with children and the Alice and Wonderland motifs that is a staple to his character. His isolation and eventual descent into madness is something that happens before batman is even on the scene, and definitely will help paint the story of what Gotham is to the people who live there.
Basil Karlo (a.k.a Clayface) is interesting in the fact that his villainy doesn’t show itself until well into the batman story. He’s an actor. If they go with any incarnation of the character it will most likely be Karlo. Truth be told he probably won’t even show up as a villain or even in the early stages. If they’re smart, they’ll play him the same way they’re playing Harvey Dent. He’s a good guy on the service, but there’s a very dark side to him that comes out every once in a while that reveals his true nature. For the most part, in his introduction to the series, He’ll probably be making a cameo, or possibly even a victim, but we won’t see his true destiny for years to come, way after the series ends.
Either way, Season 2 is shaping up to be quite an interesting season for Gotham, especially considering they may possibly be throwing away an original creation, Fish Mooney. She’s been one of my favorite characters of the series. I love what Jada Pinkett-Smith is bringing to the role. Part Ertha Kitt’s Catwoman, part Harley Quinn, and part Black Mask. She’s fun to watch I hope they keep her on, but if they take her out, then let her go in a blaze of glory!
