Geek News of the Day – 3/25/2015
The Professor checking in again, dropping some knowledge and giving you the GNOD.
Idris Alba to star in next Star Trek…as the villain!
While I’m personally still hoping they choose him to be the next James Bond, I’m quite alright with seeing Idris Alba enter the world of Star Trek, especially if he’s going to be the main villain. The only issue with it? You’ll probably have more people rooting for him than Kirk and the Enterprise. Check out the news here.
Has Marvel picked who will wear the webs?
So we know for sure now that Peter Parker will be Spider-Man when he makes his appearance in the Marvel movies. What we didn’t know was who was going to play Peter. We might now. Cinema Blend is reporting that 16 year old Mateus Ward has read for the role and could be the front-runner for the job. I personally would like to see them go with an older, experienced Spidey angle, but who am I really to question Marvel at this point. Check it out here.
Our first glimpse of Lex Luthor from Batman v. Superman!
I’m still in the camp that really wanted Bryan Cranston to play Lex, but I’m not at all against Eisenberg taking the reigns. One of the concerns people had for a while was it was rumored that he was not going to shave his head for the role and give us the typical Luthor shiny skull. Well…worry no more. See a bald Eisenberg here!
In brightest day, in blackest night…is what Tyrese tells us right?
So I’m sure, for better or worse, we all remember the first Green Lantern movie. Ok, mostly for worse. I still enjoy Ryan Reynolds (yay Deadpool!) You can’t blame them for giving it a second shot. Hell, even Ghost Rider got a second shot. Let’s hope this doesn’t go the same. The rumor mill fired up though when on his Instagram, Tyrese Gibson posted a pic of the Green Lantern ring with a caption of “The Oath – See you soon”. The post was taken down later, but is it too late? Check out the story here.
Littering and…..littering and…..funding a sequel.
Ok kids, pay attention meow. One of the funniest movies in recent history was a little film called Supertroopers. If you’ve never seen it, you should go check it out, I doubt you’ll be disappointed. You’ll be running around, all nimbly pimbly when its over. The movie is such a cult classic, they guys at Broken Lizard decided a sequel was required. Having trouble getting a studio to fund it, the guys have taken to Indiegogo asking for assistance. The base number they asked for to make a bare bones sequel was $2 million. They cleared that in less than 24 hours, but still could use more to give us a better quality sequel. If you’re a fan and want to contribute, go check out their page here. Go right meow.
Geek worlds collide and the result is…shiny.
Closing out today’s GNOD with something completely awesome. I’m a fan of the TV show The Flash, and I’m a HUGE fan of the old show Firefly. Apparently, the guys from The Flash are also big fans of Firefly. Three of the cast members got together and performed the Firefly theme song in an amazingly beautiful gospel type harmony. It’s more than awesome.
