Welcome to another exciting edition of the Geek News Of the Day. We a have a few items here to discuss that I’m sure you’ll find interesting. Let’s dive right in and talk about some of the latest news in Geek Entertainment.
Movie News
Final Testing For Spiderman
From Latino-Review I’m hearing a few things in reference to the Spiderman casting that is enough for me to believe that they at least in the final stretch for casting Spiderman. This makes sense, shooting for Captain America: Civil War has already begun in Atlanta, GA; and if the new Marvel-owned Spiderman is making his debut in this film, they’ll need to make a decision shortly.
Truth be told, I think they’ve already made their decision on who will play spiderman on film for weeks (maybe months) now, we’re just getting the news that the studios want us to hear. What Latino-Review is saying is that Asa Butterfield is in final negotiations for the role and at this point. this is just formalities. It makes sense because the same thing happened during the Doctor Strange casting, and Benedict Cumberbatch ended up getting the role.
We’ll see how this one plays out, folks, and we’ll get you the latest as this story develops.
New Mutant(s)
Today, we have two exciting new pieces coming from the X-Men camp that are sure to get the fans geeked out for what’s to come in the X-Men world. One concerns an addition to the X-Men: Apocalypse cast and the other is about a spinoff of the franchise.
Adding A New Mutant to Apocalypse
Bryan Singer has been doing a great job keeping the fan base up to date with all the scene photos he’s been posting. In the image below we see what they’re setting up a CGI scene. the caption says, “masterfully puppeteers a mutant guided incoming owl.” What could this mean? It looks like he’s saying that there may be a new mutant character introduced that has the ability to speak to animals.
New Mutants Spinoff In The Works
Looks like a possible choice here be either Lin Li or Danielle Moonstar. Since Lin Lin Li is later in the comic timeline, Dani Moonstar would be the mutant of choice for the best bet. She was actually in the Age of Apocalypse Comic arc and was working with Apocalypse in the story. It could very well be that we are looking at the abilities of one of Apocalypse’s Four Horseman. Another possible hint to this character being Moonstar (a.k.a Mirage) could be the fact that her weapon of choice is a bow and arrow and in the same scene from another shot taken by Singer, has men carrying bows. It’s a leap but could very well be possible.
In other X-Men news, Josh Boone (director of The Fault in Our Stars) has been signed on to direct the X-Men spinoff New Mutants. This news could actually confirm Mirage’s involvement in the Apocalypse storyline. Since she is a main member of most of the iterations of the New Mutants, it makes sense that she would be introduced in the movie now to be involved in the spinoff later.
Enter Bebop
Bebop has been cast for the sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Gary Anthony Williams (“Malcolm in the Middle”, and “The Boondocks”) will take on the role of Bebop in the follow up film. He’ll start the movie off as a member of a street gang at first before being transformed into the warthog we know from the original series.
Williams joins Megan Fox, William Fichtner, Will Arnett, Tyler Perry, Brian Tee, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Stephen Amell.
Crossbones in Captain America
Finally, some scene shots from the Civil War set. Take a look below and you’ll notice a new character in the mix. Frank Grillo returns to play Brock Rumlow a.k.a. Crossbones. Looking forward to this movie. It should prove to be loads of fun.
Alternate Hulk Vs. Hulkbuster Fight
Straight from the Professor, I received a storyboard video of the alternate fight between the Hulk and the Hulkbuster Armor. It’s fun, as a fan to see the varieties in thought process when it comes to these things. Without further adieu, Hulk vs. Hulkbuster Round 2.
