Age of Apocalypse
You know I love it when an actor carries an intense level of respect for the role they’re about to take on. When the research the material that they are about to portray on the big screen and just have a passion for the story that they are about to help tell.
Oscar Issac is one of those actors to me. He has a level of intellectual professionalism when it comes to his craft and a childlike wonder when it comes to the art form. He recently had an interesting interview with IGN on his work for X-Men: Apocalypse and explained what the message of the movie is going to be. He started things off by saying the song “The Man Comes Around” by Johnny Cash holds the gist of what the movie’s about. Take a listen below and check out his comments.
“Without giving anything away, the recruitment of the Four Horsemen is very cool. It’s very interesting the way that he does that. You know the idea of – the way that cult leaders do – they find people who are in need of something and try to fulfill that thing in them – as it relates to every one of the Horsemen.”
He goes on to answer whether he is excited about the role and how Apocalypse will manifest in the story.
“Absolutely. And at the same time figuring out what the limits are and how it relates to how he moves and what it costs him. That’s always a fun thing. So to be able to sit with [writer/producer] Simon Kinberg and – as a fan – just go through it and be like, ‘Well what about this!?! You know, this is something that he does in the comics and is there a way to incorporate this? Or if he has this power suddenly how do we make that not come out of nowhere?’ So it’s really fun to map that thing out. But yes, the nature of how his powers manifest themselves is to a certain extent quite open to interpretation. Because there are so many and they are so vast.”
He talks about the his idea of what Apocalypse means, and he gets biblical with it. Love it! He further goes on to discuss what this meaning does for the character and the story’s development.
“We associate so strongly with destruction, but it actually means to lift back the curtains. On an individual level he’s able to reveal the true power of his Horsemen and what’s true to them. And I think to reveal the weakness – how weak we’ve become. Because this is an ancient entity. So to come to – I think 1983 – and say, ‘How did the world become so weak? How did we allow ourselves to become so weak and to enslave ourselves.’ I think that’s where he’s coming from.”
Isaac is passionate about this film. That makes me excited for what’s to come. I can get behind someone who enjoys what they do and brings the right amount of intellectualism to his research and exploration.
Spidey Party Of Five!
Looks like the casting list for Spidey hopefuls has been revealed and the five young actors are as follows
Looks like they are wasting no time with Spidey in the MCU. Check the comments made by Feige on the MCU’s brand of Spider:
“There is a young kid [already] running around New York City in a homemade version of the Spider-Man costume in the MCU,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told CraveOnline earlier this month. “You just don’t know it yet… In Spider-Man’s very specific case, where there have been two retellings of that origin in the last whatever it’s been – [thirteen] years – for us we are going to take it for granted that people know that, and the specifics.”
I love where Feige is going. No more origins just a dive in to the character. Look for our friendly neighborhood spider to make his debut in Captain America: Civil War July 28, 2017.
More “Suicide Squad” Casting News
Looks like we’re getting new info from HipHopDX on casting for the David Ayers film, “Suicide Squad”. Rapper-turned-Actor Common has been cast in the film. His role in the film is still unknown, but he has mentioned his desire to play the Green Lantern, John Stewart (Who hasn’t, right) It’s much more feasible to see Common in the role than other hopefuls. John Stewart is a subdued man, having served in the Marines. It would be interesting to see Common play the role. I loved what he did in Selma, and believe him as a man of action in Run All Night and even Smokin’ Aces. Right now though this is all conjecture. We’ll let you know what happens as we get updates.
