It’s Happening – The Mouthy Merc Cometh

No need to grab your seats, this will be quick.

I’m just dropping by here to throw out a quick announcement that has hit the web today. Back in 2011 there were rumors that we would finally be getting the full fledged, merc with the mouth Deadpool movie. There was a script making it’s way around the net, there was even test footage created to try to get it off the ground. That same test footage was “leaked” not too long ago, pulled down, and then re-released in full HD video.

Check out the HD teaser footage here!

Today it was announced that we will finally be getting the movie so many people want. Mark your calendars, Wade Wilson fans, with February 12th, 2016.

So far, all we have announcement wise is a date. There’s no talk about a movie rating or who will be the star. Personally, I believe if they use anyone other than Ryan Reynolds, they will be making a HUGE mistake. That guy is exactly what you want playing Deadpool, and better than that, he wants to. Badly. Watch the teaser. He’s perfect. He was even perfect as Wade Wilson in the god awful X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. I refuse to acknowledge what happened to the character at the end of the movie. Oof.

The other big concern people have is the rating. Will it go the safe, superhero movie route and be PG-13? Or will it go the more Deadpool appropriate “hard” R rating? No one knows for sure. I would imagine it’ll be PG-13, but I still think it could work. PG-13 has been getting more and more raw these days, so it’s possible. Would it be as true to form? No, couldn’t be, but it could still work into a decent movie. While I realize movies like Sin City and Kick Ass are R-rated, comic book movies, they are also not mainstream like Deadpool is. That makes it a little tougher to do.

My biggest concern? The movie studio currently holding the rights to make the movie. Fox does not have the greatest track record with Marvel-based superhero movies. The X-Men movies, for the most part, have been hit or miss. The Fantastic Four movies? Awful. Daredevil? Oof. Electra? There aren’t words harsh enough. I also hold very little hope for the upcoming Fantastic Four remake. I do, however, hold some hope for Deadpool. From the things I have read, if they use the script that was floating around in 2011, it’ll be a really good movie. Only time will tell, I suppose.

Until next time…

Class dismissed.
