Blackhat
Hey folks, were coming to the close of the weekend and there’s still a few movies out there for your viewing pleasure. Let’s talk about Blackhat the hacker action flick starring Chris Hemsworth, Viola Davis, Wei Tang.
The movie centers on the attacks of a hacker exploiting a code created by Chris Hemsworth’s character for the pursuit of profit. The government enlists the aid of Nick Hathaway (Hemsworth) to locate the hacker so that his terrorist attacks can be halted.
The film is directed by Michael Mann which means the style is gritty and hyper-realistic. The story felt a little long at moments and I felt that they could have chopped at least a half hour off of the film. I did like Hemsworth’s character and felt like he made a believable hacker that has been in prison. There are a few cliché lines though about the character as a prisoner that don’t make you feel like the storyteller didn’t do much research that scratched the surface. I do feel, however it takes an interesting look at the next possible stage of terrorism that could plague this world.
Wei Tang as Chen Lien was a joy to watch she is a great actress that I hope continues to do wider marketed films as she progresses. Viola Davis, I felt, was underused in the film. There were moments in the film that were solid but there were a few dry spots that made me fill like this movie would have been better suited for TV. Although the actors did an exemplary job in the film there’s only so much you can do with an underdeveloped story and a par directing effort.
If you really must see this film as a Hemsworth fan I’d catch a matinée or use those free tickets you may have received as a gift. For the most part I’d say wait to rent this one.
